Maeve Dooley was one of the founding practitioners of Focus Counselling and Psychotherapy in 1997. She holds an honours degree in Psychology along with her professional Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy. Maeve's primary approach is Humanistic and Integrative (inclusive of person centred, psychodynamic, gestalt and cognitive behavoural approches) with an additional specialised interest in Jungian analytical psychotherapy. In addition she has trained in Jungian Sandplay therapy with the British and Irish Sandplay Society (BISS) in London. Maeve's orientation is towards depth psychotherapy, extending into dreamwork, spiritual aspects and existential meaning. She has a continued commitment to professional development through regular participation in training seminars and experiential process work. Maeve is also an Accrediated Supervisor with both the IACP and the IAHIP and has trained in supervision practice with the British Association for Psychotherapy (BAP) and The Dublin Gestalt Centre.
Ruth Steenvoorden R.G.N., Dip, Counselling and Psychotherapy, MIACP
Originally coming from a medical background, Ruth Steenvoorden has been practicing as a professional psychotherapist for ten years. Coming from private practice in Dublin , she joined Focus Counselling and Psychotherapy in 2001. Ruth's primary approach is humanistic and integrative. She specialises in Gestalt therapy having trained extensively with the Dublin Gestalt Centre as a post graduate for four years. Gestalt therapy is a gentle, holistic approach to understanding how a client feels and thinks right now. Focusing on the here and now while paying full attention to the clients emotional and physical responses can help a client determine a better way forward.It is a gentle and kind form of psychotherapy with huge potential for awareness and healing.
